Share to Selfish from any app

Selfish is in the Share menu on iPhone, iPad and Mac. What you share becomes a draft in the site you choose.

ShareAnd the draft holds
A page from SafariThe page’s title, its link, and any words you had selected, as a quote.
A linkThe link, on a line of its own, so it can become a link card.
TextThe text.
PhotosUp to ten at a time. Each photo’s location and other details are removed as it is shared, before it is stored anywhere.

The sheet lets you choose the site, give the draft a title, and add words of your own. Then Save Draft. Selfish adds it straight away if the app is open, or the next time you open it. Nothing is published.

You need at least one site in Selfish before you can share to it. On the Mac, if Selfish isn’t in the Share menu, turn it on in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Sharing.

Widgets and the Control Centre control

WidgetWhat it shows
DraftsHow many drafts you have and the newest of them, for one site or for all of them. Tap a draft to open it. It comes in small, medium and large sizes, and for the Lock Screen on iPhone and iPad.
New PostOne tap to start a post in a site.

Both are available on the Home Screen and on the Mac’s desktop. On the Lock Screen, draft titles are hidden while your device is locked if you have asked iOS to hide sensitive content there.

There is also a New Post control for Control Centre, which opens Selfish to a new post.

Shortcuts

Selfish has five actions in the Shortcuts app.

ActionWhat it does
Create DraftSaves text as a draft in a site you choose. Give it a title, or it is titled from its first line.
Create PostMakes a post with a title, date, tags, category, photos and a status. It is a draft unless you choose Published, and nothing goes online until the site is published. Photos lose their location and camera details.
Append to PostAdds text to the end of a post, as a new paragraph.
Find PostsFinds posts by words in their title or text, newest first. Narrow it by site and by status, and limit how many come back.
Publish SiteBuilds a site and sends whatever changed since it was last published. Nothing is sent when nothing has changed.

Publish Site is what makes automation possible. A Shortcuts automation can publish for you every evening, or on the morning a scheduled post is due, without asking. It follows the publish screen’s cautious rules: on SFTP, WebDAV, S3 and folders it never takes down a post it doesn’t recognise, and it stops rather than upload blind if it can’t read what is live. It skips the screen’s site check, privacy report and live check, so publish from the app now and then to see those. A site’s first publish is best done in the app.

Siri

Siri knows two of them out of the box.

Ideas

Start a draft from any app on the Mac

Select some text anywhere on the Mac and choose Services → New Selfish Draft With Selection. It becomes a draft in the site you have open, with its links and bold intact. New Selfish Draft starts a blank one.

Give either a keyboard shortcut in System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Services, and you can capture without leaving what you are doing.

System search and Handoff

Your posts turn up in system search, drafts included. Open one straight from the result. The index stays on your device.

With Handoff, the post you have open on your Mac appears in the app switcher on your iPhone, and the other way round, so you can carry on writing where you left off.
