Shortcuts
These work on the Mac, and on an iPad with a keyboard unless marked.
| Keys | What they do |
|---|---|
| ⌘N | New post. On an iPad with the Pages tab selected, a new page. |
| ⇧⌘N | New page. Mac. |
| ⌘S | Save the post you are editing. It saves itself anyway. |
| ⌘O | Open the selected post in a window of its own. Mac. |
| ⇧⌘P | Open the publish screen for the current site. |
| ⌘, | Open Site Settings. |
| ⌘1 to ⌘9 | Switch to that site. Mac. |
| ⌘B · ⌘I | Bold and italic. |
| ⌘K | Link the selected text. |
| ⌘F | Find and replace in the post. |
| ⌘+ · ⌘− | Make the editor’s text bigger or smaller. Mac. |
| Esc | Cancel a sheet. |
Typing ## , ### or > at the start of a line makes it a heading or a quote as you write, and Return carries a list on. See Write a post.
The Mac’s menus
Most of what a site’s ⋯ menu holds on iPhone and iPad is in the menu bar on the Mac.
| Menu | What is in it |
|---|---|
| File | New Post, New Page, Open in New Window, New Site…, Import Site… and Import Markdown…. |
| Site | Publish Site…, Themes…, Categories & Tags…, Site Settings…, Recently Deleted…, and your sites, to switch between. |
| View | Make Text Bigger, Make Text Smaller and Actual Size, for the editor. |
The Site Actions button in the toolbar has Import Markdown, Posts from Photos…, Themes, Categories & Tags, Recently Deleted, Writing Stats and Site Settings. The Publish button beside it counts the changes that aren’t live yet.
Things that are different on the Mac
- There is no swipe to delete. Right-click a post or page for its menu, which has Delete along with Share, Copy to, Move to and Open in New Window.
- Drag things in. Photos, videos and audio from Finder or Photos land where you drop them in a post. Markdown files dropped on the posts list become drafts. A photo dropped on the thumbnail tiles in Details becomes the index thumbnail.
- Drag a post out of the list and it leaves as a Markdown file.
- Details is a panel beside the editor, not a sheet. The window widens to fit it.
- Services. Text selected in any app can become a draft. See Capture.
- Paste is plain unless it is something a post can keep. See Paste.
